How to split video?
Introduction.
Home video recording is a good way to save significant moments of our
lives and share them with others. However, sometimes a part of the video is inappropriate or unwanted,
and you may want to cut it out. Alternatively, we can simply split the video and delete the
bad or irrelevant fragments.
Another
day we get a huge media file with several episodes of a film or series in it and
wish we could edit it too. You might think every such situation requires a special
video editor
tool and skills to use it, but here we will discuss how even an
inexperienced user can edit video files using only his or her average home computer and
a piece of software called SplitMovie.
Step 1: Download and install the program.
Download SplitMovie and run the setup file to
install it.
Step 2: Start the program. Load a video file to split.
Launch the video splitter. Click "File" - "Open" on the
toolbar to load a video for editing.

Firstly, we should specify the video to split. Click
"Open" and select your video:

Click the file with your mouse and hit "Open". It will be loaded into the
video cutter.
In the preview area you can see the video and play it back using the player
controls below. In such way you can find the point where you want to cut the
video. Click on one of the markers to the right to
set start or end of your split video.

Step 3: Prepare video. Split video file.
After choosing split points for your video take a look at the right pane. The upper block
controls the splitting mode and
method. With this program you can split movies manually, as you
are doing right now, choosing start/end time for each part of the video, or you can
cut video automatically by
certain criteria. Foe example, with the second option the program is capable of
breaking your video into equal parts by file size, by time and by
quantity of parts needed. Thus you can chop a video file into several parts for
comfortable playback on some portable device that will not play huge media
files otherwise.
We will proceed with manual video editing and set an
output folder. To do so, click the folder icon in the "Output directory" area to invoke the "Browse"
dialog and specify where to save the cut videos.
The next drop-down list allows us to save our video in different formats. AVI,
MPEG, WMV, RM are available. If you tick "The same as input" option the
drop-down list will become inactive, as the program will save the output file in the
format of your source file.
When everything is set, click the "Split" button to start cutting
your video:

A new window will pop up with the final set of options:

The default settings are good for most cases, so you can simply click
"Next" to split your video file.
The trial version of SplitMovie adds a special logo to each video it processes
and works for 30 days. If you like the program, you can register it and remove
all limitations.
