Discotheque Sound System DJ (DSS DJ) is a professional software for music mixing, remixing vinyl simulation and live recording for DJs who want to mix without special DJ equipment. It implements all features of DJ hardware enriching them with limitless possibilities of computer technologies.
Before using DSS DJ for the first time you may want to configure it. Click the "Menu" Button in the center of the program window and choose "Configuration" from the pop-up menu to set your sound device preferences (e.g. with 2 soundcards the master signal goes to the loudspeakers and the monitor signal goes to your headphones). In the General settings you can activate Master tempo, choose to reset Decks after loading a new song, define Pitch/Tempo bend value, alter UI skin etc.
The main window of the DJ program contains three panels:
- In Browser you can create and modify song lists for mixing. Choose a song list in the tree structure and all the songs in it will be shown in the right part of the browser with the available MP3 tags. You can add, delete, sort, preview the songs before loading them to the decks.
- Identical Decks A and B control playback of audio files and are used to loop, to set cue points, to scratch and spin, to include real-time effects (up to 4 effects can be used together), to equalize and to kill frequencies. BPM is detected automatically. The pitch slider is used to modify the playing speed of a song. The waveform display allows the user to monitor sound in real time with the help of the colored markers.
- The Mixer panel provides a number of functions to mix songs and add effects, much like a hardware device, but with Digital Signal Processing: crossfader to fade between decks, EQ-faders, beat synchronization, Boost/Mute.
DSS DJ supports the Auto-DJ mode, rhythms of both songs are automatically synchronized and beats are perfectly overlapped to create quality beat-matching. If you mix manually you can record the music mix live.
